Using a teleprompter on your Mac for calls and video
Reading from a script on camera is a skill. A teleprompter helps, but only if it is set up well.
Put the text near the lens
The farther your eyes travel from the camera, the more obvious it is that you are reading. On a notched MacBook the camera is inside the notch, which makes the notch the ideal place for text.
Pacing
Set the speed so you read comfortably out loud, not so fast that you rush to keep up. Start slower than you think you need. Make the text large enough that you can sit back from the screen.
Write for the ear
- Use short sentences.
- Put one idea on each line.
- Spell out numbers the way you will say them.
A notch setup
In NotchStar, open the Teleprompter tab, paste your script with the pencil button, then set speed and size with the two sliders. The text fades at the top and bottom so the line you are reading is the clearest one. Use Mirror beforehand to check your framing.
